GA Conference Teachmeet 2021

Once again, we are not able to be in person at a GA Conference, so aspects of the conference cannot be done face to face. There are many highlights of any GA conference, and the Teachmeet has become established as one of them: taking place at the end of the first full day and a chance to extend the day and have a beer with friends while listening to ten or more colleagues sharing ideas from their classrooms.

You can sign up to either present or lurk here.

To get a flavour for the atmosphere at a Teachmeet, you can still watch 2019's version here. Thanks to Rich Allaway of Geography all the Way for live streaming the event.

This year, we are particularly interested in new and diverse voices and storytellers, who have never presented before and are ready to step up and share an idea. There should also be a link to the conference theme of Compassionate Geographies.

Fieldwork Questionnaire

GIS and Google Earth are often used to map fieldwork data... Is there a training need there?

One of the things launched at the recent GA conference in Guildford was a questionnaire on fieldwork and outdoor learning which was developed by Philip Monk and other colleagues on the Fieldwork and Outdoor Learning Special Interest Group.

If you had time to fill the survey in, that would help to inform the GA's future support for Fieldwork and Outdoor Learning.
It's embedded below as well if you had time to help out.

One of the really useful resources that I picked up at the conference was from the Field Studies Council, and is a guide to GIS.

They also offer a range of CPD courses for teachers at a low price.

Kokae

I've mentioned the KOKAE resource before on my Google Earth page, but for those who don't know, it's a series of video resources based on Google Earth.
A session was delivered to the GA Conference in April 2007 by Richard Treves, and this is now available for you to view HERE. This includes all details of the talk and lots of other materials. A very helpful resource.

I was unable to attend this session as I was delivering our 2 hour workshop on GIS, delivered by members of the GA Secondary Committee at the time.
The materials from the GA Conference are now appearing on the website.
There's plenty more of Geographical interest there...

GA Conference

I will be at the GA Conference at the University of Derby on the 13th and 14th of April 2007
I will be leading a session on the use of GIS for Beginners on the Saturday morning, with a great deal of help from fellow members of the GA Secondary Phase Committee.
I will be mentioning a few Google Earth style links.
Hope to see some of my readers there - come and say hello!
I'll have a limited stock of GeographyPages pens for you to claim!
